Locality in Geometric Algorithms

Morton, Hilbert, and Tipsify reorderings applied to mesh simplification. Ordering vertices for cache locality cut edge-collapse time by up to 18% against a random ordering, without changing the result of the computation.

      Tipsify orderings. The random ordering is visually uniform noise, while the three locality-aware orderings
      produce smooth contiguous colour bands over the surface.

Self-Rectifying Textures

Textures that look like noise but hide a regular lattice in their autocorrelation. Measuring how that lattice deforms in a photograph recovers the surface deformation without visible markers, via a rectification pipeline built on Delaunay triangulation and finite elements, and extended to cylindrical surfaces.
